- Two-Lane Undivided Rural Road: Place first triangle 100 feet ahead of vehicle in oncoming lane shoulder. Place second triangle 10 feet behind car rear corner. Place third triangle 100 feet behind car to warn traffic approaching from rear.
- Obstructed View (Hills and Curves): Move furthest rear triangle back 100 to 500 feet before crest or bend. Gives approaching drivers adequate braking distance before seeing stopped vehicle.
Warning Triangle Care and Maintenance
Road grime, oil residue, and trunk dust degrade retroreflective microprisms over time. Wipe acrylic surfaces with damp microfiber cloth twice yearly. Avoid harsh chemical brake cleaners or acetone solvent which melts acrylic lens facets. Check folding metal hinges and spring pins for road salt corrosion after winter use. Keep cases firmly latched to avoid grit entering pivot joints.
