CarTechTalk publishes buying guides and how-to articles about automotive electronics, diagnostic tools and driver accessories for readers in the United States. This page explains how we choose topics, how we pick products, how we use automated tools, and how we fix mistakes.

Our independence

No manufacturer, brand or retailer pays to be included in a guide or to change where a product ranks. We do not accept free products in exchange for coverage. CarTechTalk is reader-supported: when you buy through some links on our site we may earn a commission, including as an Amazon Associate. Commissions never decide which products we recommend. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains this in full.

How we choose topics

We cover the questions drivers actually ask: which scanner reads a specific warning light, which jump starter fits a given engine size, how to test a battery at home. We look at what readers search for and what our existing guides leave unanswered. We avoid publishing several pages that answer the same question.

How we choose products

Each guide starts with criteria that matter for the job, such as OBD2 protocol coverage for a model year, peak amps for an engine size, or bed length for a tonneau cover. We then compare products against those criteria using manufacturer specifications, manuals, compatibility charts and retailer listings. Every recommended product lists a real drawback and the type of buyer who should skip it. Read How We Review for the full method.

What we do not claim

Most of our buying guides are research-based comparisons. We do not say we measured, installed or personally used a product unless the article documents that work. We do not invent specifications, prices, ratings or quotes. When information is missing from the manufacturer’s documentation, we leave it out rather than guess.

Use of AI tools

We use AI writing tools to help draft and structure articles from the specifications and sources we collect. Drafts are checked against our editorial rules before publication, including the rules on unsupported claims, missing data and disclosure. The CarTechTalk editorial team is responsible for everything we publish.

Prices and product data

Prices and availability shown on our pages come from Amazon’s product data and are refreshed at least once every 24 hours. Prices change often, and the price shown by the retailer at checkout applies. We do not write prices into article text.

Safety

Some topics involve car batteries, jacks, electrical systems and fuel. We point readers to the vehicle’s owner’s manual and the product’s instructions, and we recommend a qualified mechanic when a job carries a real safety risk. Our articles are general information, not professional repair advice.

Updates and corrections

We update guides when products change, are discontinued or when better information becomes available, and each article shows the date it was last updated. If you find an error, please tell us through our contact page. We review every report and correct factual mistakes promptly.
